In a groundbreaking move to support athlete wellness, the International Golf Federation (IGF), in collaboration with the Singapore Golf Association (SGA), is proud to announce the launch of the “Serenity Space” at the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships (WATC), hosted at the prestigious Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore.
This innovative initiative marks a significant step forward in the IGF’s commitment to holistic athlete development, recognizing that mental well-being is as vital to performance as physical conditioning.
The “Serenity Space” is a thoughtfully designed environment where athletes can engage in relaxation, meditation and mental conditioning practices throughout the championship.
Main Features and Activities
The “Serenity Space” will feature five distinct activity zones, each tailored to support athletes in unique ways:
- Welcome Area – A warm, inviting space for athletes to acclimate and prepare for recovery sessions.
- Active Relaxation Zone – Includes soothing music, comfortable seating, coloring and painting activities and calming visuals.
- Gratitude Corner – A reflective space encouraging athletes to express appreciation and cultivate positive emotions.
- Mindfulness and Deep Breathing Zone – Offers guided meditation and breathing exercises to promote mental clarity.
- Virtual Reality Zone – Immersive experiences designed to help athletes visualize goals, build mental resilience and enjoy a brief escape from the world of
competition.
Together, these zones create a comprehensive environment that supports both physical and mental recovery, reinforcing the IGF’s dedication to athlete-catered care.
Prof. Dr. Margo Mountjoy, a leading voice in athlete health and safety, emphasized the importance of such initiatives:
“Creating a safe space involves more than just physical safety; it encompasses mental and emotional wellbeing as well. Athletes face immense pressure and scrutiny, and it is crucial that they have access to resources and support systems that help them navigate these challenges. By ensuring that golfers can access a safe and relaxing space, we empower them to focus on their performance and personal growth.”
The “Serenity Space” is not only a feature of the 2025 WATC but also a pilot initiative that will inform future IGF wellness programming. It reflects a broader vision of inclusivity and excellence in sport, ensuring that every athlete competes in an environment that prioritizes their health, dignity and growth.
