The world’s best amateur golfers are headed for Singapore in October 2025, after the Republic won the bid to host the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) following the International Golf Federation (IGF) biennial meeting held at Le Golf National in Paris on 29 August 2022.
WATC is a biennial international amateur golf competition conducted by the International Golf Federation (IGF). Thirty-six countries will compete for both the Espirito Santo Trophy (women) – contested from October 1-4 – and the Eisenhower Trophy (men), played from October 8-11, 2025. Each country fields two or three players, with the two lowest scores counting per round.
Antony Scanlon, Executive Director of the IGF said: “Singapore Golf Association (SGA) has a great reputation and experience in hosting successful international amateur golf competitions, and we are excited to have selected them to host the 2025 World Amateur Team Championships. Our athletes are certain to be warmly welcomed and enjoy a fantastic experience in Singapore.”
The SGA will be hosting this prestigious international event for the first time, and Tan Chong Huat, President of SGA is proud of this momentous milestone.
“We are honoured to host the World Amateur Team Championships in 2025 as this milestone underscores Singapore’s growing prominence on the global golfing stage and showcases the country’s ability to host international events.
“We would also like to thank the International Golf Federation and all National Federation Members for giving us this opportunity to further our mission to promote the game of golf in Singapore and the region.
“This will be the first time Singapore will be hosting this prestigious event, and we look forward to welcoming top golfers and officials from around the world to our island. We will be synergising our efforts with the host club, Tanah Merah Country Club, Government agencies, Sport Singapore and Singapore Tourism Board to deliver a memorable experience for all players, delegates, coaches and spectators,” said Tan.

The 2025 WATC will be contested at the renowned Tanah Merah Country Club (TMCC), Tampines course. Recognised as one of the premier golf clubs in Asia, TMCC has hosted international tournaments such as The International Series Singapore and The Singapore Women’s Open.
Mr Ng Kee Choe, Chairman of TMCC said: “Tanah Merah Country Club is honoured and delighted to be the host venue for the World Amateur Team Championships in Singapore in 2025. We look forward to welcoming the world’s top amateur ladies and men golfers as they vie for the Espírito Santo and Eisenhower trophies. The hosting of this world-class event will enhance the Club’s position as a premier club and golf destination in the region. We will spare no efforts to work with the STB and SGA in making this a successful and memorable tournament.”
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and Sport Singapore have also supported SGA’s winning bid and will continue to work closely to deliver the best experience for all athletes and delegates.
Chaly Mah, Chairman of Singapore Tourism Board said: “The 2025 World Amateur Team Championships adds to our calendar of world-class sporting events and further entrenches Singapore’s position as a regional sports tourism hub. We look forward to welcoming the travelling players and their accompanying friends and families, and strive to provide them with a memorable experience on and off the golf course. Local golf enthusiasts will also be able to participate in golfing clinics and seminars, in addition to enjoying the top level golfing action.”
Dr Su Chun Wei, Chief of Singapore Sports Institute, added: “Hosting the prestigious 2025 World Amateur Team Championships will be a key driver in raising the standards of the sport locally over the next few years, and it will give our athletes a once in a lifetime opportunity to compete against the world’s best amateur golfers right on home soil.
“We are delighted that the International Golf Federation is confident in our capability to deliver a world-class golf event, and we will work closely with SGA over the next few years to ensure the event’s success.”
